Your Passion. Your Future. A new look prospectus for Askham Bryan.

Askham Bryan College are a specialist land based college based in York, who offer a wide range of practical courses to prepare students for their chosen career. They wanted a fresh design for their 2018 college prospectus, and chose us to deliver the project for them based on our expertise in the education sector.

They asked for a new look and feel for the prospectus that would bring together the information on both their colleges, and would set the standard for brand evolution over time. The prospectus needed to be visually engaging to prospective students and have strong call-to-actions throughout, leading readers to the college website for further information.

Their key objectives for the project were:
• To have a prospectus that was engaging for young people and displayed the information in a way that was interesting and easily digestible.
• For the information included to have a strong call-to-action to the college’s website as well as showcasing their benefits and USPs.
• To seamlessly combine the offerings of both Askham Bryan and Newton Rigg College.

We needed to make sure the prospectus would stand out amongst other Further Education print, so we used bright colours and gradients to create a bold and compelling cover to instantly draw people in. We included icons throughout the print to group together important information, and graphics to emphasis the facilities available at the colleges.

It was essential to us that we showcased the amazing locations of both campuses and the ‘hands on’ nature of all the programmes. To communicate this, we opted for a heavily photography based approach to the design, using images of real students studying their chosen subjects.

Askham Bryan’s USP is all about providing students with the necessary practical skills and training to unlock new career opportunities. To reinforce this message and ensure it was a clear theme throughout, we created the ‘work ready learning’ emblem featured on the cover and on each category page.

To come up with a stunning creative solution, we:
• Researched into the ethos and offerings of both colleges to ensure we understood the critical information they needed to communicate to prospective students.
• Conducted student insight to inform our design approach.
• Understood the partnership between the two colleges and their joint USP.

During the development of the prospectus, we visited the printer and gathered images and footage of the printing process to be used on social media, creating intrigue and excitement. Impact on admissions has been strong.
